Every first Saturday of the month at 7:30 p.m., the Surry Arts Council presents an Old-Time Dance at the Earle Theatre in downtown Mount Airy. Popular old-time dance tunes are presented by The Slate Mountain Ramblers. New and experienced dancers fill the dance floor in front of the stage. Traditional music enthusiasts enjoy the music and tap their feet in the comfort of the auditorium seats. Concessions including the Earle’s famous freshly popped popcorn are available.
The Slate Mountain Ramblers Band is led by Richard Bowman. Daughter Marsha Bowman Todd has won first place at the Galax Fiddlers Convention in both Old-Time Vocals, and Old-Time Dance. The Band has won “old-time band” awards at the Galax Fiddlers Convention, the Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention, and many other venues.
Admission is $5 or free with a Surry Arts Council season pass.
