Every Thursday and Saturday, the Surry Arts Council hosts jam sessions at the Earle Theatre in Downtown Mount Airy. Local bands and individual musicians play on the stage and in the mezzanine. Musicians can be found jamming outside the Earle when the weather permits. Musicians take turns playing, singing, and backing up others. Many come just to sit in the auditorium and listen and tap their feet – or dance on the wooden floor in front of the stage.
Thursday jam sessions take place at 7:00 p.m. and are free. The Saturday jam session occurs from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., just after the live radio broadcast of WPAQ’s Merry-Go-Round. Admission is $6 on Saturdays, which includes admission to the Merry-Go-Round and the Old-Time Music Heritage Hall.
